After a dozen years as a professional catfish guide and a decade of manufacturing catfish bait I found myself answering the same questions over and over again by email, phone and to my fishing clients.
I was constantly answering questions by email and on fishing forums and found myself answering the same questions over and over again.
I woke up one night at 2:00 in the morning and the idea “hit me” to start a website to be the “go to resource” for catfish anglers of all experience levels. I got out of bed, bought the Learn To Catch Catfish website name and started to work.

My name is Chad Ferguson, I’m the “head catfish dude” here at Learn To Catch Catfish.
I’ve been a pro catfish guide in North Texas for over twelve years and own and operate North Texas Catfish Guide Service. I also own a popular catfish bait company called Redneck’s Catfish Bait Soap.
Years ago when I got serious about fishing for catfish I had to fumble my way through learning how to consistently find and catch fish. Every once in a while there was a magazine article or an “old timer” that would help with information but I was forced to figure 99% of it out by myself in the beginning.
I wanted to create a resource for others to be able to go and get credible information on fishing for catfish so they didn’t have to fumble around trying to reinvent the wheel and learn from scratch the way I did, so I started Learn To Catch Catfish.
Catfishing has always been very secretive with very few people willing to share information about what really works or what really puts fish on the end of the line.
I decided to change that when I started Learn To Catch Catfish.
The majority of information on Learn To Catch Catfish is free but I also offer premium products as well. The premium products are in depth resources that provide detailed information on locating and catching catfish using certain techniques or at different times of the year. The sales of the premium products are what pays the bills and allows me to keep the website online and “pay the bills”. You can find all of these on the premium products page.
For the past three years I’ve been filling the pages of Learn To Catch Catfish with articles, videos and podcasts to help educate catfish anglers across the United States.
Years ago I wanted to be a writer and I’ve dabbled in photography off and on for years so filling the pages of this website is a great outlet for me and something I enjoy.
Somehow, I ended up being a Paramedic instead of a writer and spent ten years as a Paramedic before moving into the world of being a catfish guide.
I’m married to my wife of 16 years (Leanne) and have two kids. I live in Fort Worth Texas and fish on several lakes in the north Texas area including Eagle Mountain Lake, Lake Worth, The Brazos River, Lake Lewisville and Lake Ray Roberts.
When I’m not working running guided fishing trips or making catfish bait I’m usually in the outdoors hunting for feral hogs and coyotes or shooting guns. I spend every free moment hunting, fishing or doing something that allows me to be outdoors.
