Catfish On The San Antonio River

San Antonio River Catfish Flathead Catfish On The San Antonio River I received a photo in the mail the other day from a guy named Dale Halata from the San Antonio Texas area of a group of guys and a big flathead catfish and after a few emails back and forth, some more photos and a back story decided to post them here on LearnToCatchCatfish.com

I am strongly considering starting a fund to try to raise money to get that guy in the middle a new a cowboy hat but I guess that is a different story for a different day.

Here is the email I received from Dale and some more photos:

This 47 pound yellowcat was caught in the San Antonio River just below Goliad Texas. The 4 people listed above are all on my 16 foot flat bottom boat. Every year my friends get together and fish this part of the river. 4 boats total are down there. We sleep under a bridge for 4 nights and set approximately 120 to150 hooks per boat. We fish trotlines and 3 and 4 hook throw lines. This fish was caught in a 8 foot deep hole off of a 4 hook throw line tied to a flexible willow tree branch. As we pull up to the line it appeared to be pulling slightly but nothing out of the ordinary. As soon as the line was touched by Neal, he knew we had something large on it. As he pulled it to the top of the water and we were getting ready to dip him in the net his large tail splashed gallons of water in the boat and took off down again. Panic hit the boat and we knew with that short glimpse we had to get him in the boat. Again Neal pulled the line up and this time Chris got him in the net and in the boat. We weighed it right there and the scale read 47 pounds. This fish for me is a record for us in that river and for all the boats that go down there. The previous record was held two years ago by another boat with a 39 pound yellowcat. Attached are some other pictures of some other fish caught over the weekend. We do this several times through the year and I will keep you posted. This is a very big sport in our area.

Thanks for the photos Dale. Looks like you had a great time. Always fun to see pictures of people enjoying themselves catfishing.
