Catfishing Radio_600_400

Over the past few months I have made several mentions about having a number of announcements to make here at Learn To Catch Catfish. This is the first of many (and not the super top secret catfishing stuff I mentioned). I am very excited about finally getting this together.

Welcome To Catfishing Radio

Catfishing radio will be available on Learn To Catch Catfish and also available for download, and ultimately available through iTunes.

What is catfishing radio?

There are a lot of times that I have phone calls with different folks where we are talking about catfishing and the thought hit me one day like a two ton heavy thing. What if I recorded some of these conversations and put them in interview format and shared them with the readers of Learn To Catch Catfish?

Once I got the devious little idea in my head the wheels got to turning and the idea started to get legs and took off.

The first thing I did was rush out and purchased the website name www.catfishingradio.com to keep someone else from rushing in and stealing it from me and then we got to working on the technical side of things and making sure we can get it to all work. Now, if you haven’t already tried to do so don’t bother going to the website because there is nothing there, it’s just a name. All of the audio files and information will be posted directly through Learn To Catch Catfish, so this is the only place you will need to go.

I had to purchase some basic equipment and software to get up and running and now finally have everything in place to be able to record and edit audio interviews. I didn’t get really great gear so the audio quality will not be the best but I think it’s sufficient to get everything started. Hopefully once I get everything up and running and working well then I can look into getting some better gear, if it’s needed.

There will be audio files available on the website where you can listen on the computer if you wish, or you can save the files onto your iPod or iPhone and listen on the go, whether you are in your car, at the lake or out cutting the grass you will be able to get caught up on the catfishing action. We are also going to work on getting the interviews listed and available through iTunes as well for those who use the iPod or iPhone

I think we are also going to have the interviews transcribed so you can just read them as an article as well but I am still working out those details also.

What will the interviews on Catfishing Radio be about?

Ummmmm, catfishing! I have a lot of ideas. It will be me talking to and interviewing other catfish guides, bait manufacturers, tackle companies, and fishermen about catfishing! I have about a dozen people in line already waiting for me to set something up with them and that is just the first dozen people I spoke with that are close personal friends and people I speak with on a regular basis. without really putting any effort into it.

How often will there be episodes of Catfishing Radio?

Ummmmm, I’m really not sure right now. I need to get the first few done (I actually already recorded one and had to trash it because I needed some different equipment) and then once I have a better idea what kind of effort is involved I will take it from there and try to get in a schedule. It could be once a month, could be once a month, could be more often. I just have to get a better idea on how involved it will be.

The other difficulty I have is that i don’t sleep and often work on this website at very odd hours (it gives me something to do because I can’t sleep). Because there is an interview involved I have to coordinate schedules with other people, so I am just going to have to get this worked out.

When will the first episode be online?

Here in a couple of days I am going to post an interview that another radio show did with me so everyone can listen. I need to watch once I add these files and see how much strain it is going to put on the website (and in turn my pocket book). Once I have a better idea of that then I am going to try to figure out how to handle this going forward.

Audio and video files that I add to the site (that are not hosted by a third party like YouTube use a lot of bandwidth. Basically what that means is I pay a company to host the website for me and they give me an “account” that says how much data I can move back and forth in a month (which happens every time someone views a page or a photo etc). When an audio file is involved it uses a much larger chunk of that account.

I have said it a hundred times before but make sure you subscribe to both the newsletter and the daily updates because if I do have to shut things down to the general public, the folks who are subscribed to the newsletter will get the first lick at getting access to the interviews.

I am going to play around with it some and see what happens and how badly this effects things. If it starts eating up too much then I will cross that bridge when I get there and try to figure that out. I am also trying this now, in November, because it there is much less web traffic regarding fishing (because they probably have not seen my winter trophy catfish videos) than there is during the warmer months so it is good time for me to test things out.

As I mentioned a couple of times I am in the process of moving so it may be a bit before I get up and running and have everything working.

I’m tingling with excitement and anticipation! What a great little idea Chad. I admit that when I read the title, I thought you were gonna be on the radio like on 1080AM or such. :p

Still, I think its an excellent idea to keep your readers plugged in and in the mix as well as to help spread your name and catfishing guide service.

Are you also gonna take our calls and answer some of our questions “live”?? I think I read that up above, but its still too early here. 7:30AM :p

I’ll give you credit Chad….you’re always trying to think outside the box fish :p and put back into your business and your passion in life.

I’m sure you already know this Chad, but I’m gonna give you this constructive criticism anyways… :p DON’T SCRIMP OUT ON GOOD QUALITY AUDIO EQUIPMENT!!! After all…its a radio show right?? Nothing could be more annoying than hearing static and high pitched interference and muffled voices that cheap butt audio and audio recording equipment makes. If your gonna do it…DO IT RIGHT! Spend the extra…it WILL be worth it, and your listeners will appreciate it. ;)

    Just my 2 cents.

Go man. Looking forward to this new media to show up. It seems your always a couple of jumps ahead of the “competition”, and that I like.
