Catfishing With A Baseball Bat – Revealed

Catfishing Baseball Bat

Several months ago I posted an article and a video about catfishing with a baseball bat. This was one of the most popular posts on Learn To Catch Catfish for a long time and was really just a short teaser video without any real answers to what I was going to use it for.

This tip is right up there with my leader line trick as far as being useful.

I mentioned a few times that I was going to post the results and post them in a private area and have been working on this for a few days off and on and have finally given up for now so I am just going to make the information “live” here on the website.

The baseball bat (a Fat Bat whiffle ball bat) is used for chumming for catfish.

It’s a pretty simple process:

  • Just take a hacksaw and cut the very top end off.
  • Add some silicone or something to the small hole at the bottom and wrap some duct tape around it (make sure you do this because if not the juice from the soured wheat will run all over your feet and you will smell like a septic tank for three days).
  • You can use this for slinging soured wheat or milo, range cubes or any other form of catfish chum.

The basics of this is whether chumming or baiting a hole for catfish, it allows you to avoid what I covered in this article which is dumping your chum in a big pile or small area. It allows you to really sling the chum out away from the boat and cover a lot of water with it, really getting it spread out.

When I first started using this I had a lot of people laughing at me out on the lake, but now just about everyone I know is carrying a baseball bat on their boat (and they aren’t laughing any more either).

I have made a great video that walks you through the process and talks about some of the details. I kept forgetting to film something on the lake, so I shot this short video down in my barn the other day.

Watch the video and enjoy! I was sweating my rear end off because it was around noon on a July day so cut me some slack, it’s not easy filming a video on the surface of the sun.

Finally found a BIG bat at WalMart cut about an inch off the end and filled the handle with a full tube of caulk. Works great for flinging chum and range cubes.
