The Learn To Catch Catfish Month In Review – September 2010
This is my monthly wrap up I do of all the articles, information and goings on here at Learn To Catch Catfish for the month of September 2010.
Things have been crazy as usual around here and I have a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on. I had hoped to have made some big announcements early this month but decided I needed to sit on it a bit and make sure I had everything together before I did anything. I hope to be able to let everyone know very soon, as there are several very neat things going on.
I have had several emails about the Learn To Catch Catfish T-Shirts and people wanting to know if I have done anything on this yet, and the answer is no. Mrs Redneck as had me working day and night because we are selling our house and I am pretty behind on a number of things.
This, in combination with my accident I had put a bit of a damper on things for me this month. I was painting my house getting it ready to sell and decided to take a flying leap off the top of a twenty foot extension ladder on to concrete. I don’t suggest trying this if you are considering it. Thanks to all the well wishers who sent me messages on Twitter and Facebook when they heard about my accident. Now, before anyone says anything you might remember back in May I almost cut my finger off. So the answer is yes I am pretty accident prone. Long story short I am still hurt but I am getting through it so all is well.
Anyway, make sure you sign up for the newsletter. There are going to be some special incentives coming out for newsletter subscribers when I make these announcements soon. I also send out exclusive content from time to time ONLY to the newsletter subscribers. The most recent example of this was the video on catching catfish with a thermocline.
I am really excited about some of the projects that we have been working on here and am looking forward to rolling them out soon.
I would like to say an extra big THANK YOU to everyone who has been helping to spread the word about this website sharing it with friends, family and other people online. The more people I can get visiting this website and reading it the more things I will be able to make possible. Remember to help me help you and share this website with everyone you know, you can read some more details on how you can help here!
Message Forum
I have had repeated requests from people about adding a message forum to this site. This is something that I may ultimately do but I am not in a position to do so right now. Until then, feel free to communicate through the comments on each post. An ever better possibility is to do so through the Learn To Catch Catfish Facebook Page, feel free to post questions, photos, information and interact through this area. At the very least, stop by and show your support of Learn To Catch Catfish by clicking the “Like” box at the top of the page.
Stuff I Was Doing This Month When I Wasn’t Here
Fishing has been awesome. We have been catching channel catfish like crazy on guide trips and have been having a ball. I suspect this bite will last a few more weeks at best before the lake starts turning over and the fishing gets tough.
I am starting to get a lot of phone calls for winter trophy catfish trips. If you are interested in coming to fish with me and catching a monster blue catfish, late November through mid February is the time to do so. You can view some photos from past trips here on the North Texas Catfish Guide Service Facebook page. To get rates and details go to North Texas Catfish Guide Service website.
I have started posting fishing reports on a regular basis again and and going to keep trying to do this. Make sure you “Like” North Texas Catfish Guide Service On Facebook also so you can keep up with these reports.
I am working like a madman to try and get a bunch of catfish bait made and get stores stocked with bait for the winter as well, and then I can try to get some much needed rest and relaxation for a month or two! We have started posting some customer testimonials and news here also.

Didn’t do much fishing this month but was able to read a ton of good info! Thanks again Chad!
James;
I echo your thoughts! I fished maybe 4 times this past month with a total of approx. 10 Rainbow Trout. I did learn, I have much more to learn, as I didn’t know as much as I thought I did. Oh, I caught fish alright, but not as many as I could have if I had done it properly.
I have many to thank, especially Chad. Many, many thanks to all who have sent in comments.
Keep yer lines wet fellas.
Stan
Hi Chad.
For someone with cut up fingers and broken bones, you sure did put out a LOT of content for us all to read, digest and learn from. GREAT JOB! I hope you feel better very soon.
I was really hoping for the shirts ( & possible hats) but its no big deal to have to wait a little bit for em’. As far as a forum, yea I was one of those people emailing you about putting one up. I think it would be a great idea, and until you can get one up (or if you do) like you said, we can go to the learntocatchcatfish facebook page and post questions and comments there in the mean time.
As far as your catfish bait making is concerned, do you make anything else to sell besides your catfish soap?? I was just curious if you did or not.
And one last thing Chad….The catfish and the little Largemouth bass in your pic in this article…is this from your aquarium or is this a pic from the internet somewhere? I was curious because I recently started collecting bait fish like minnows and bluegill, and I keep them in a 55 gallon aquarium and I’m having a difficult time keeping them alive for more than a few days. I have a filter and air supply and a constant temperature of 70-75 degrees with water treatment chemicals and parasite chemicals, but they still die.
Oh well, I’ll save the dead ones and freeze them to use for future homemade punch and dough bait until I can keep them alive.
Great month again Chad. Keep up the great work you do. I personally appreciate what you do for us all here, and I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels this way Chad.

Thanks James (always).
I have been fishing Lake Fork and had some success. I have a friend coming up from Houston and he really wants to fish Tawakoni. Any thoughts on a good area to take him to this fall?
Roy,
My knowledge of Tawakoni is limited. I would focus on shallow to mid range depths, use shad and follow your graph.
Hey Roy,
When I was real young my Dad and I use to fish Cedar Creek Lake all the time cause we lived less than 1/4 mile from the lake. There are lots of Bass and Catfish in that old lake. Some of my fondest memories are me and him sitting in the boat just waiting for a channel catfish to strike! It would be worth the trip to take in my opinion.
Sincerely,
James Greene
