Real Magic is a product I use almost every single time I am on my catfish boat and something I rely on heavily. I have been using Real Magic religiously for longer than I can remember and it amazes me how many hardcore fishermen there are that fish with me that don’t know of or use this product. I talked about this some in a past episode of Catfishing Radio with TJ Stallings from TTI Blakemore (see episode 18), the company that manufactures this product but have never covered it in great detail.
I find myself referring people to Real Magic all the time and referencing this product and felt that it was worthy of having its own article because of how useful it is and the limitless ways you can use it.
Real Magic comes in both a pump and aerosol spray bottle and is a colorless and odorless (when dry) spray. There are so many uses for this product I cannot list every single way I use it on my boat and catfish gear so I am am going to hit some of the major highlights!
Fishing Reels – This is a huge help with your catfish reels. I give my reels a hefty spray of Real Magic every time I clean them and periodically throughout the year. It is as simple as spraying it down heavily, letting it sit for a few minutes and then wiping off the excess. Using the product on a regular basis on your fishing reels helps keep punch bait, other prepared catfish baits and the scales of threadfin shad and gizzard shad from sticking to your reel and when they do stick to them they come off much more easily.
Fishing Line – Real Magic provides UV protection and helps protect it from the sun, this helps protect your fishing line from harmful UV rays, regardless of what brand of line you use. It also helps make your fishing line much more limp and “castable” (see casting a baitcast reel). When fishing line is exposed to sun, heat and even cold it has tendency to get stiff and develops “memory”. When I start to see signs of this my “go to” trick is to take a bottle of Real Magic and spray all of the line of my fishing reels with a hefty spray of reel magic and I allow it to sit and soak into the spool of line. This simple act makes the line limp. castable and just like new in a matter of minutes. It works so well I try to give all of my reels a good spray once a week or so, that way I have to change fishing line much less frequently (see spooling a baitcast reel). It will also keep your fishing line from freezing in extremely cold weather and also keep your line guides from freezing as well if you spray it on them!
Marine Electronics – The sonar or “fishfinder” is without a doubt one of the most important tools on my Xpress HD22CC boat. One of the major problems with sonar units us keeping the screen nice and clear/clean so you can easily see what is on the screen at all angles with the sun shining on it. Real Magic will not only keep the screen clean but helps keep dirt and grime from sticking to it and helps keep water spots off the screen as well. I spray not only the screen but the entire unit and wipe it down well because the UV protection keeps the whole unit looking great for long periods of time. I used Lowrance LCX15MT for years and it looked brand new when I sold it thanks to the long term use of the spray! It did so much for my old sonar unit I use it almost every time I am on the water with my Humminbird 1198C I am using now!
