Storing A Cast Net
Cast nets can be pretty expensive especially when you get into larger cast nets with heavier weights on them. As a general rule the larger the cast net, and the more weight it has on it, the more expensive it will be. Couple this with the fact that you are taking it and throwing it into the water with underwater obstructions like sticks, tree limbs, stumps, rocks, trotlines and who knows what else you have a recipe for disaster and many nets get torn up while in the water. With all these challenges you definitely want to make sure that you reduce the risk of tearing up your net while it is in your boat or your truck.
In this video I show you a simple way to roll up and store them so it will not only be nice, neat and compact when you put it away but will also be easy to get out when you are ready to use it to catch bait the next time.
I have know a lot of catfish fishermen who have also stored their nets in nylon mesh bags (like laundry bags) that would help keep them from getting tangled or snagged while in storage boxes.
Here is how I store mine (as seen in the video)
Shake the net out and get any debris (or fish) out, and get any tangles you might have out of it. Hold it by the yoke while doing this.
Fold it in half, placing your hand underneath the fold.

Take the part that you folded in half and fold the net in half again with your hand underneath it.
Take the rope (hand line) and fold it in half.
Wrap the rope around the top tightly until you reach the end of your rope (no pun intended)!
Now it’s ready for storage! To unwrap and start catching more bait just reverse the process.
