On January 16th, 2004 Cody Mullenix of Howe Texas caught the fish which become known as “Splash” while fishing at the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge on Lake Texoma.
The blue catfish caught by Mullenix weighed in at 121.5 Lbs, which was not only a Texas state record but also become a world record. The fish was housed at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens Texas until it died.

“Splash” still remains as the state record blue catfish in Texas. The world record however was broken in 2005 when an angler caught a 124 Lb catfish on the Mississippi River.
